Octa, known until its rebrand as OctaFX, is a retail forex and CFD brand that has offered online trading since 2011. It is popular in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The group holds a CySEC licence in Cyprus, but most of its international business runs through offshore companies in the Comoros, Mauritius and Saint Lucia, and the brand has faced a high-profile money-laundering case in India. Our verdict: EU clients of the CySEC entity get conventional European protection. Clients elsewhere are dealing with an offshore broker and should weigh that seriously.

A note on scope: the official octa.com site could not be loaded for this review. Legal and regulatory facts come from regulator records, the company’s published legal structure and the MetaQuotes broker directory; trading conditions such as the $25 minimum deposit and 1:1000 leverage come from independent broker listings updated in 2026 and should be confirmed on the official site.

Regulation and legal structure

In a disclosure published under its own name on Finance Magnates and repeated in the MetaTrader 5 broker directory, Octa lists the following group companies:

Entity Jurisdiction Regulator / licence Tier
Octa Markets Cyprus Ltd Cyprus CySEC, CIF licence 372/18 Top-tier (EU)
Octa Markets Ltd Comoros (Mohéli) MISA, brokerage & clearing house licence T2023320 Offshore
Uni Fin Invest Mauritius FSC, Investment Dealer licence GB21027161 Offshore
Orinoco Capital (Pty) Ltd South Africa FSCA, FSP 51913 (local intermediary) Local intermediary
Octa Markets Incorporated Saint Lucia None – no dedicated forex licence Unregulated

Octa states that each client is onboarded and serviced only by the entity named in their account-opening documents, and that products differ by jurisdiction. That is the key point for anyone outside Europe. If your agreement is with the Comoros, Mauritius or Saint Lucia company, you do not get CySEC rules, the Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund or EU leverage limits. The South African company is described as a local intermediary under the FAIS Act rather than the broker that holds client positions.

We checked the Bank of Lithuania register, which lists Octa Markets Cyprus Ltd as an EU investment firm providing cross-border services. Its permissions include reception, transmission and execution of orders and dealing on own account. This confirms the Cypriot company’s EU passport. We were unable to open the CySEC, MISA, FSC Mauritius and FSCA registers directly, so verify those licences with each regulator before opening an account.

Enforcement history in India

Prospective clients should know about the Indian case. According to an Enforcement Directorate press release dated 26 December 2024, the ED filed a prosecution complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act on 1 October 2024 and a supplementary complaint on 20 December 2024. A special court took cognizance on 24 December 2024. The ED alleges that OctaFX collected funds from Indian investors under the pretext of forex trading, routed money through mule accounts and shell companies, and generated around Rs 800 crore of proceeds of crime in nine months. It says it attached or seized assets worth about Rs 165 crore, including properties in Spain. In earlier comments reported by Finance Magnates in August 2024, OctaFX called the allegations in the Pune police case unsubstantiated and said impostors had misused its brand. These are allegations in an ongoing case, not a final judgment. Indian residents should note that the Reserve Bank of India has warned against unauthorised forex platforms.

Fees, accounts and products

We could not access the official pricing or account pages, so the figures here come from independent broker listings updated in 2026, as of November 2026. Octa runs commission-free, spread-only accounts on its own OctaTrader platform and on MT4 and MT5; it does not publish whether it acts as market maker or passes orders on. Spreads are advertised from 0.6 pips on EUR/USD, the international entities accept clients from $25 and allow leverage of up to 1:1000. The range covers about 50 currency pairs plus metals, energies, indices and crypto CFDs, roughly 80 instruments on MT4 and OctaTrader, while share CFDs push MT5 to more than 270. Funding options listed by reviewers are Visa and Mastercard, local bank transfers, Skrill, Neteller and crypto (Bitcoin, Ether and Tether), and Octa says it does not charge its own deposit or withdrawal fees. When you compare Octa with other brokers, check these points on the official site for your specific entity:

  • the typical spread on EUR/USD and gold during your trading hours, not just the “from” figure;
  • whether swap-free trading is offered and whether any fee replaces swaps;
  • the maximum leverage for your entity. EU retail clients are capped at 1:30 on major pairs, while offshore entities usually allow much more;
  • deposit and withdrawal methods, fees and processing times in your country.

Platforms

Octa appears in the official MetaQuotes directory of MetaTrader 5 brokers, so MT5 on desktop, web and mobile is available. Other platforms and the company’s own apps should be confirmed on the official site.

Who Octa suits, and who should avoid it

May suit: EU residents who are onboarded by the CySEC-licensed Octa Markets Cyprus and want an MT5 broker under European rules.

Be cautious if: you would be served by the Comoros, Mauritius or Saint Lucia companies, where protection is offshore-grade or absent. Indian residents in particular should be aware of the ongoing enforcement case and local rules on overseas forex trading.

Final verdict

Octa is a large, long-established brand with one properly regulated EU company. For most of its global client base, however, it operates through offshore entities. The Indian money-laundering proceedings add reputational and legal risk that clients should not ignore. Before opening an account, confirm in writing which Octa entity you are contracting with and check that entity’s licence with the regulator. Remember that leveraged forex and CFD trading can cause losses greater than you expect.

Is Octa (OctaFX) regulated?

Partly. Octa Markets Cyprus Ltd is regulated by CySEC (licence 372/18) and serves EU clients. Which Octa entity will I trade with?

Octa says clients are served only by the entity named in their account-opening documents. Check those documents, because protections differ greatly between the CySEC entity and the offshore companies.
