FXTM (ForexTime) has been around since 2011 and built its name on MetaTrader accounts for traders in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The most important thing to know in this FXTM review is what changed in 2024: the Cyprus company Forextime Ltd renounced its CySEC licence, and the brand now runs almost entirely through Exinity Limited, an investment dealer licensed by the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius. Trading conditions remain competitive, with a commission account from 0.0 pips and entry-level accounts from $30, but the safety net behind them is thinner than it used to be. Our verdict: a capable, low-cost MetaTrader broker for traders who accept offshore supervision, not a pick for anyone who requires a top-tier regulator.

Regulation and safety

For years FXTM pointed to its CySEC licence as proof of European-standard oversight. That ended in May 2024, when CySEC announced that Forextime Ltd had expressly renounced its CIF licence, held since 2012 (FX News Group report). Today the FXTM website footer lists three entities:

  • Exinity Limited (Mauritius, registration C119470 C1/GBL): FSC Mauritius investment dealer licence C113012295, and also authorised by South Africa’s FSCA as FSP 50320 and an OTC derivative provider. This is the company most international clients sign with.
  • Exinity Capital East Africa Ltd (Nairobi): licensed by the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya as a non-dealing online foreign exchange broker, licence 135, operating forextime.com.
  • Exinity Global Financial Services L.L.C. (Dubai): licence 20200000270 limited to promotion and introduction, so it does not hold client accounts itself.

The FXTM FAQ also mentions Exinity UK Limited with FCA number 777911, but the main entity explicitly does not accept UK residents, so that licence is not relevant to most readers. FXTM states that client money is held in segregated accounts and that it acts as principal, meaning it is the only execution venue for your orders. The FAQ also carries a risk warning that 88% of retail investor accounts lose money with this provider. In practice, a non-Kenyan client is protected only by Mauritian and, where applicable, South African rules, which offer far less recourse than the FCA or ASIC.

Accounts and minimum deposits

FXTM’s line-up is wider than most brokers’. The account comparison page lists six live options:

Account Min. deposit Spreads from Commission Max leverage
Micro (cent) $30 1.7 pips None 1:1000
Edge $50 0.9 pips None 1:500
Rewards Plus $100 1.5 pips None 1:5000
Rewards $200 0.9 pips None 1:5000
Advantage $500 0.0 pips $3.50/lot per side (FX) 1:3000
Advantage Stocks $200 4 cents None 1:1

The Edge account is the newcomer: it runs on FXTM’s own web and mobile app rather than MetaTrader, trades in micro-lots and uses a 70% margin call and 30% stop-out (Edge page). Rewards Plus and Rewards trade on MT4 and MT5 and earn loyalty points, up to 3x on Rewards Plus. Advantage Stocks is a 1:1 cash-equity account with access to more than 600 US shares on MT5.

Spreads and commissions

Cost-conscious traders will look at the Advantage account, where forex spreads start at 0.0 pips and FXTM charges $3.50 per lot per side, or $7 per round turn. Other asset classes carry their own commissions:

Instrument (Advantage) Commission
Forex $3.50 per lot per side
Spot metals $25 per million notional
Indices, commodities, crosses $35 per million notional
Crypto CFDs 0.03% of notional
US stock CFDs $0.02 per side per lot
ETF CFDs $0.01 per side per lot

On the commission-free accounts, the cost is built into a wider spread, from 0.9 pips on Rewards and Edge to 1.7 pips on Micro. Overnight swaps apply unless you choose swap-free status. Watch the non-trading charges too: an account dormant for three months pays a 10 USD/EUR/GBP monthly inactivity fee, and withdrawing without having traded can cost bank fees or 3% of the amount, according to the payment terms.

Leverage and risk

FXTM uses floating leverage that shrinks as your position size grows. The headline cap is 1:5000 on the Rewards accounts and 1:3000 on Advantage, which is far beyond the 1:30 retail limit in the EU, UK or Australia. Kenyan residents are capped at 1:400. Margin call and stop-out levels differ by account (50%/20% on Micro and Rewards, 80%/50% on Advantage). Leverage this high can wipe out an account on a small price move, so most traders should set a much lower ratio themselves.

Platforms and tools

MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are available on desktop, mobile and web, with expert advisors supported on both. Stock and ETF CFDs are MT5-only. The Advantage page quotes an average execution speed of 0.082 seconds, and the FAQ lists trading servers in Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Hong Kong. The proprietary FXTM App handles account management and is the only platform for Edge. A free Practice account lets you test MT4 or MT5 first. We did not find a TradingView integration.

Deposits and withdrawals

FXTM supports bank cards, e-wallets, bank wire, cryptocurrency and local payment methods, but exact fees and processing times appear only inside the MyFXTM client area. Deposits are processed instantly when no extra checks are needed. Your initial deposit must go back to the same source; profits can be withdrawn by any available method. Account currencies include USD, EUR and GBP, with AED and NGN for UAE and Nigerian residents.

Who FXTM suits, and who should look elsewhere

FXTM suits MetaTrader users in its core markets who want a choice between simple spread-only accounts and a raw-spread Advantage account, and who value small entry deposits. It is also one of the few brokers combining CFDs with 1:1 US share trading in one login. It does not suit residents of the UK, US, Canada or India, who are not accepted, nor anyone for whom a top-tier regulator and an investor compensation scheme are non-negotiable.

Final verdict on our FXTM review

This FXTM review comes down to a trade-off. Pricing on Advantage ($7 round turn from 0.0 pips) is competitive, account choice is broad, and the brand has 15 years of history. Against that, FXTM chose to walk away from CySEC and now relies on an offshore Mauritian licence for most clients. Start with a demo or a small Micro deposit, keep leverage modest, and remember that CFDs are high-risk products where most retail accounts lose money.
